Your Bio

Hi There. My name is Brad Johnson and my Amateur Radio callsign is AA5CH. I'm also known by my nickname of "Eeyore" of "eor" in some circles...a nickname bestowed upon me by friends who have noted my solitary nature, stoic demeanor and dry sense of humor.

One of my galleries consists of photographs that my father took during World War II. He never spoke about his experiences during the war but did leave me with a scrapbook and a couple hundred loose photos. I scanned the best of these, superimposed captions using his margin notations, and compiled them into a book of sorts. I have uploaded them here in the hope that I can assist someone searching for information about a father, uncle,or grandfather that might have served in his unit. I also think this photographs have a broader historical value as they document the progression of a typical unit through its training and deployment.

A few years ago I began riding motorcycles and began to look more closely at the world around me. I now carry a small digital camera with me whenever I ride and have it easily accessible for the interesting things I encounter on my travels. Many of the photos I have taken have been used in my ongoing Ride Report on the Adventure Rider website. I also enjoy writing and hope to someday develop the ride report into a more formal work. The address of my ride report is http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55163

Take care, ride safe (if you ride) and 73 (if you are a ham radio operator),

Brad

Frankly, I think the name should be changed to "Chrome and Silicone."

KHDX FM : KHDX FM is owned and operated by Hendrix College in Conway, AR. In the 70's and 80's, it was a refuge for some very unique and creative people who only had one rule : No Disco Or Current Popular Music Allowed. Everyone brought their own records and tastes with them and you could hear any and everything from classical to punk during a two hour period. The "X" was one of very few 10 watt STEREO FM stations in the country. I was the station engineer for several years and responsible for keeping it on the air. I had the transmitter cranked up to 18 watts, giving us a coverage area of 10 miles or so. Hanging out at the X was one of the best times of my life and I learned a lot about music.

Clarksville Fire Dept. Prepares Flood Gates On Spadra Creek Levee, Oct 29 and 30, 2009 : Clarksville Fire Dept. members prepare to install flood gates on the Spadra Creek levee . This has only been done a few times since the sea wall was built in the early 60's. I remember my father taking me down to watch them set them up in 1974. Fortunately the creek crested around 12:30 AM just short of the threshold that would have required them to fully install the gates and start sandbagging. A truck of sand and inmates from the detention center were standing by if needed. I have to give props to the Fire and Police Departments, The Light And Water and Street Departments, the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, and the State Police. From an observer's standpoint, it appeared the residents of Clarksville were well served by their city employees and volunteer responders.
